When I feel that I am all alone
I listen intently to hear his voice,
I search his words to follow his life,
Seeking for him is my life’s choice.
When times of trouble stir my soul,
When the noise of life deflects my view,
I turn to reflect upon the message of his life,
To follow his voice my direction is true.
I follow his example into the waters I go,
I seek to feed his lambs and buoy up his sheep.
Searching for others to lift and serve each day,
Despite the trials, his covenants I seek to keep.
When the voices of the world my peace destroy,
How do I tune my heart and ears to hear him?
I strain against the voices in my head and beyond,
Feeling overwhelmed my lamp I must trim.
Each one of us must tune our hearts and ears,
We must seek him out and find his voice.
Within our own hearts and souls, it will sing,
Lifting our eyes from lost states to rejoice
How do you and I hear him?
If we would have him hear us day by day,
Then we must like David’s harp be in perfect tune,
Able to hear him regardless of trials in our way.
When our heart and souls are tuned to his,
We become one with him and follow him true,
To the faith required to give ourselves to him,
He can mold us through and through.
