The Refiner’s Fire

To become more holy as God would have us come to be,
We must pass through the refiner’s fire to purely see.
That grief and pain can purify our hearts and our mind,
Drawing us closer to the Savior in time he will bind.

In the fire of affliction is not a comfortable place to be,
Yet it makes us malleable and more capable to see,
That Christ is molding and shaping our souls to refine,
Into much more a child of God capable of the divine.

When the fire of the furnace of purification is lit,
We can kneel and align our hearts, or just aimlessly sit.
To stand and be counted as one who will endure,
Knowing that his promises are undaunted firm and sure.

The seemingly unbearable discomfort we each feel,
Can cause us to remember and before our maker kneel.
For he can refine us from impurity to clean and polished,
When we enable his grace our pain and grief he’ll abolish.

Only when we are tried and tested can we be refined,
Pushing out the fears and failures from our mortal mind,
It is then we remember that the Savior passed through all,
Grief and pain and sorrow as he saved us from the fall.

We too can become more holy as we embrace the fire within,
The unseen fire of affliction purifies our heart from sin.
Enduring, now the molding and shaping can take place,
As we each take advantage of his power and his grace.

For the Savior is the one who can quench the refiner’s fire,
When we are purified at last and find in him our desire.
He can shape us into the men and women he yearns for us to be,
When we give our hearts and souls to him we will finally see.

The greater the refiner’s fire, increases our capacity of joy to feel,
Being forged in the fire of affliction can our hearts and minds seal,
Our souls to follow the Son with full purpose of heart and mind,
As the fire burns more brightly in the eternities it will surely bind.

Taking his holy name upon us and following his light divine,
Must become our one true purpose if he our hearts will refine,
To become his sons and daughters yielding to his mind and will,
Binds us to the Savior, through the fire of affliction he will us seal.
