The pride of the world has taken hold of the hearts of mankind,
For the love of substance and money has warped the human mind.
Fine apparel, and adorning shrines unto ourselves above all,
Leaving the poor, sick, needy, destitute, hungry in vain to call.
How do we turn our hearts away from that rust that does canker,
And seek out the needy, sick, hungry and afflicted without rancor?
How do we yield our hearts and souls to follow the Savior’s example,
Seeking daily to eradicate hunger, sickness, loneliness to trample?
Building, uplifting all our brothers and sisters who struggle each day,
Reaching down as did the Savior to lift hearts and hands that pray.
Finding peace in a world of sin, finding ourselves to come home again,
Where we can bring home others along with us whom we can sustain.
Finding things that matter most brings true happiness to heaven’s host.
For when we serve another’s needs, our own no longer matter most.
Yielding our hearts and hands to serve the Lord and follow in his ways,
Will bring about true joy and happiness as we serve him all our days.
