Short as life can sometimes seem or be,
We can look into the eyes of a child,
And see a light that shines more bright
The distant memory less mild.
If we could see beyond our mortal eyes
Into the world beyond, we would see,
Far more than our minds and hearts can now imagine
Of a place we want to someday be.
Is it foolish to imagine that happiness prevails?
That pain and suffering his blood and tears wash away?
Is it foolish to believe there is more than we can see?
That we long to live and in God’s presence stay?
Pushing us away to experience life unabashed,
Realizing that without the challenges of life,
We cannot learn and grow within ourselves
To become as he has without strife.
Finding within ourselves a brighter light,
That when nourished builds into a perfect day.
One filled with knowledge and truth divine
Finding peace and solace following his way.
Can we reach up high into the heavens,
And think to touch the face of God?
Without extending our arm as far as we can reach?
Can we sow without churning the earth’s sod?
Belief alone is not enough, but an action is required.
To move beyond a place of simple belief,
Into a world of enlightenment and love,
Where peace consumes our pain into relief.
Finding again the truth which leads us home,
Where we can be content to live free.
For there is so much more than we can presently see,
Waiting beyond our sight into eternity.
If I am to see beyond myself to the life yet to come,
I must be willing to embrace the truth now.
Not waiting for this life to pass into the grave,
For his holy son did indeed show us how.
His life of sacrifice was a mirror for us to see,
That life is meant to be lived in service to others.
Not just life to be lived pursuing selfish plights,
But a life of lifting our sisters and our brothers.
He awaits our return another life to live,
Where meaning and sacrifice are brought to bear.
Wherein we may find the peace and know without doubt
That there is so much more to life he’ll share.
