The trials of daily life can ofttimes leave us tired and feeling alone,
As we question, “is this really necessary?” as our hearts groan.
Wondering if the Lord knows our pain, from beginning to the end,
Drinking from life’s bitter cup as the wounds make our knees bend.
Drinking daily and often can sometimes make us thirstier for relief,
Exhausted from the daily grind as hearts yearn to hold on to belief.
Not seeking to drink the bitter cup but asking instead for a break,
Finding no relief from trials as we just hold on for the sinners sake.
The bitter cup found daily in our hands, now becomes a mainstay,
As we hold tighter yet to the challenge at hand of each passing day.
Realizing that not drinking fully leaves desire wanting more relief,
Worth the effort is each drop as the peace of Christ replaces grief.
Remembering that the Savior drank each and every drop from his,
We raise our bitter cup and drink every drop knowing what it is.
A moment of pain and sorrow can bring about everlasting change,
Drinking daily embraced down to the very last drop not so strange.
