The mirror of our success cannot always be the eyes that stare back at me.
As I look into the eyes that are the window of my soul, I see what I can be.
Self-doubt and negative thoughts build gaps between who we can become,
An unwelcome guest can preside over our thoughts if we him welcome.
Searching our souls finding the flicker of flame that reminds us who we are,
Not giving in to the thoughts and the voices that would lead us places afar.
Finding instead resilience in who we really are, children of a divine being,
Sons and daughters of a loving Father who’d never us shame or demean.
Resisting the inner urge to allow the natural man in each of us to consume,
The real identity we can claim beyond tears of sorrow, self-doubt and gloom.
Knowing who we truly are provides a strength and foundation we can own,
That keeps our feet planted firmly on the covenant path where we are known.
Never yielding to the voices including our own that would provide doubt,
Our minds and hearts remaining free to see the reflection pushing fear out.
Seeing ourselves more clearly through the looking glass, we move forward,
Ever moving forward despite the fear and pain, we simply move upward.
